How Helpful Are Career Fairs In Finding A Job?

Generally, employers will not come to a job fair unless they have an opening or are anticipating an opening. The company representatives will have an idea of what they are looking for, which is great if you are interested in those jobs. Many times you can even interview on the spot! This article gives some pointers on how to best present yourself at a job fair.

If you are not interested in any of the jobs being offered, it still may be good to go. If you are interested in working for a certain company, you get the opportunity to talk with HR. Usually, they are keeping an eye out for talent that would be a good fit for the company. If you impress them, they will likely pass your resume on and it is possible that you will get a call to chat with somebody in your area of expertise. Also, as others have said here, you will get practice with pitching yourself and your skills to others. More time you can practice your elevator pitch, the better you will get.

When does it not make sense to come to a job fair? When you have no interest in the positions offered nor the companies attending. Spend your time networking or updating your resume.
